Our main working areas
The Phage Center at Bad Kissingen is dedicated to work with bacteriophages in veterinary medicine.
A study is investigating the in vitro efficacy of different bacteriophage suspensions for humans against bacterial isolates from companion animals. The focus of this study is on samples from dogs, cats, and horses (ear, wound, and urine localizations) with chronic infections of multidrug-resistant bacteria. The investigations will focus on selected genera, such as Pseudomonas spp., Staphylococcus spp., Proteus spp. as well as Enterococcus spp. and Klebsiella spp. The susceptibility of the bacterial isolates against different bacteriophage suspensions will be tested by a phagogram.
Another study deals with the isolation, purification and characterization of bacteriophages against epidemiologically important bacterial isolates from the veterinary medicine.
Phagogram on a TS agar plate using the top agar method on Acinetobacter spp.
The phagogram shows the in vitro efficacy of a bacteriophage on Acinetobacter spp. isolated from the environment using a dilution series.
Phagogram on a TS agar plate using the top agar method on P. aeruginosa
The phagogram illustrated shows the in vitro efficacy of a bacteriophage suspension using dilution series.
Phagogram on a TS agar plate using the top agar method on P. aeruginosa
The phagogram illustrated shows the in vitro effectiveness of a bacteriophage suspension using dilution series. Furthermore, the blue-green coloration of the TS agar plate, which is characteristic of P. aeruginosa, is clearly visible.
